The Rueda region of Castilla y Leon in northern Spain produces some fabulously fresh and vibrant white wines and this Verdejo (a classic white grape of the region) from Lidl is no exception and brilliant value at £5.99.
The flavour profile for Verdejo is usually fresh and fruity and the ‘La bien Pintá´scores on both accounts. The Verdejo grape is usually harvested during the night when the temperatures are cooler thus retaining the grapes acidity which in turn leads to its freshness.
In the glass the colour is straw like with a hint of green with aromas of green apples. On first sip the dry freshness and clean taste hits you, highlighted initially by the crisp green apples then followed by grapefruit and honeydew melon. The finish is long enough and there is a zesty acidity enveloping the whole taste experience. Perfect with food but equally good on its own.
At £5.99, for what is a very good example of what Verdejo is all about, this is stunning value for money and well done to Lidl for sourcing another brilliantly affordable wine.
