Do you enjoy Chardonnay? and why is it still treated with some apprehension? Rich and loud, popular in the 90’s although Bridget Jones did her best to make it slightly naff drinking copious amounts usually with tears running down her face. It was the bottle to take to a party where you could knock it back without thinking about what you are drinking, most of it being little over the top in flavour, too buttery, too woody or even too sweet.
Thankfully, now there is a lot of good Chardonnay out there whether with some oak or unoaked and this Edna Valley from California’s Central Coast is in my opinion pretty decent.
Edna Valley Chardonnay 2017
Aromas of stewed apples, lemon peel, pineapple, ripe peaches, vanilla and Lurpak. Nicely balanced taste between butter and tropical fruit, Still has fresh acidity and the oak is very subtle. There is some Caramel toffee flavour giving a hint of sweetness along with some buttered popcorn on the finish.
This is just a lovely enjoyable Chard to drink on its own or as I did with some chicken, baked rice with tomatoes and artichokes. With Christmas coming up you wouldn’t go far wrong having this with your Turkey.
