There seems to be a bit of a theme at the moment in my posts about cheap wine and this review is no different, the fact is there is some pretty decent wines to be had for not a lot of money, although you may have to tip a few down the sink in the process of finding one as I have. So next up is a Romanian Pinot Noir the ‘Sorcova’ on offer for just under £6 and this one most definitely stayed in the bottle although not for long.
Sorcova Pinot Noir 2019
First let me thank Brian Elliot of Midweek Wines for the recommendation Although a fairly plain looking bottle that red labelling does stand out on the shelf so you should have no problem finding it. Not your go to country for Pinot Noir but I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and better than a lot I’ve tasted for three times the price.
Sticking my nose in the glass this was unmistakable as a Pinot Noir, quite earthy even gamey but full of berries notably cherry and strawberry. The fruit does stand out, it’s bright there is some acidity, the earthiness does come through as well along with some sweetness. My only criticism is the finish could be a bit longer but overall this is a nice example of a inexpensive Pinot and one I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. Grab a bottle whilst it’s on offer, let me know what you think.
