Rule Britannia, Britannia rules the wine, well today it does as I had a double header turn up in the form of a wonderful bottle of Ridgeview Bloomsbury NV sparkling wine and Oz Clarke’s book on English wine which popped through the letterbox. Managed to finish the wine, the book may take a little longer but quickly flicking through it it looks like a terrific read as well as a valuable source of information. (Review on book to follow)
Ridgeview Bloomsbury NV
From the beautiful Ridgeview vineyard at the foot of the picturesque South Downs in the village of Ditchling comes this zesty little number. Made up of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
Lively in the glass and a fine mousse, very much Chardonnay dominant with strong aromas of citrus fruit, namely lemon and crisp green apples. The citrus theme carries on in the taste, this was very full on orchard fruits, bright and crisp describes this wine perfectly, there is a slight creaminess and perhaps a hint of yeast but it’s the fruit with its sharp acidity that shines here.
Nicely chilled it’s the perfect hot summers day fizz, either on its own or with a nice plate of seafood either way this is effectively summer in a glass.
